Well Pump Check Valve Installation

Install a check valve immediately after the water pipe enters your house but before it reaches the pressure tank.

A leaky foot valve or check valve allows water to drain slowly down the well piping and flow back into the well. Consider adding a pressure tank to the well pump to keep the water pressure constant and reduce the wear and tear on the pump motor. Many well pumps have built in check valves. At some point this will reduce the pressure in the pressure switch causing the pump to cycle back on to increase the pressure.

If you have a slow producing well that pumps a little air from time to time the first check should be installed 5 feet or so above the pump to allow the pump to purge itself of air more. It is recommended that at least one check be installed in all submersible well pump installations. Many brands of submersible pumps include built in check valves. The thd1020 features 1 25 in.

For those that don t pump installers usually install a check valve in the well immediately above the submersible pump. Installing a deep well pump is not an easy diy task. For sump pump applications the thd1020 can be for sump pump applications the thd1020 can be used with any 1 25 in. This is called intermittent pump cycling.

Install the valve with dye imprinted flow arrow in the correct direction. Normally the first check valve should be installed on or directly above the pump. Install a submersible pump lesson 4. This allows the check valve to do it s job while also allowing it to remain accessible for servicing and replacement.

Some installers but not all also install an indoor check valve near the pressure tank. Follow these tricks for lowering a submersible pump. Even if a pump does have a built in check valve we recommend that a check valve be installed in the discharge line within 25 feet of the pump and below the draw down level of the water supply. Consult a licensed professional to continue to install a deep well pump or carefully follow all the manufacturer s directions that came with the pump.
